In the midst of working on the #NGC introduction video, I decided I wanted Cece to read the voice over for the slides. There is something fun and authentic about having a student involved in the creation process of the product. This somehow made clear the missing student voice from the creation of their "learning" that is the cancer of the modern day educational system.
So on Friday Cece began to record over the slides using iMovie. I was in the room, listening and doing other things at the same time, I might even have been painting my nails for a wedding for which I was getting ready (evidence that students need a comfortable safe space to engage authentically with who they are #GodIsStillSpeaking). Well, after this process, on the way to the wedding, I realized how much went into the whole process to get what I wanted out of the video, but have HER do it.
So I pulled out my phone and used VoiceRecorder to get my ideas into digital space before I forgot them. I debated on retyping my "Vlog" as I'm calling it, thought maybe I needed to clean it up, make it presentation worthy.
But that's not how authentic learning, and more so creating, works. Harry Potter was written on napkins, Bill Gates dropped out of college. My point is, students and teachers need a good reminder of what LEARNING and THINKING FEEL like again. Learning is messy. Innovation comes in spurts of crazy momentum and headbanging roadblocks.
This is just me, in excitement to share what I feel is my learning. Feel free to tweet at me with your favorite idea! @AjBarnett914 #Vlog
